The 'Sun, Moon, and Five Peaks' poster was conceived to challenge the conventional visual narrative by delving into abstract concepts, employing metaphors, and weaving compelling storytelling. The primary objective was to offer viewers a unique perspective while enhancing visual storytelling techniques. The poster, designed as a 2023 calendar, diverges from traditional formats, utilizing a layout where the calendar occupies less than a quarter of the space.
Drawing inspiration from the '80th Birthday Party' video as the foundational element, the poster encapsulates my personal interpretation and journey. Through the strategic integration of printed cut-out materials atop the poster, an intriguing sense of absurdity and depth is achieved, inviting viewers to explore beyond the conventional.
The intentional use of vibrant primary colors – red, blue, and green – serves as a cultural homage to my native country, South Korea. This choice pays tribute to the traditional 'Sun, Moon, and Five Peaks' motif historically displayed behind the kings of the Joseon Dynasty. Through this design, I aim to express the enduring connection and nostalgia for my culture and homeland, illustrating that even in my hypothetical 80 years of life abroad, the essence of my heritage remains an integral part of my identity.
